Lonza, Carnipure® the best l-carnitine ?

Lonza Carnipure carnitine , Does the raw material used matter and what are its advantages?
The quality of the products we use is essential and no one of us would undoubtedly want to compromise on it. Not all products use patented raw materials with proven quality, but when we choose l-carnitine, we have this option. However, does this matter for the effectiveness of the product or is it just marketing?

Who are Lonza? Lonza Carnipure carnitine ?

Lonza is a Swiss company founded in 1897, and today is one of the largest and most successful companies in its industry. The main part of their activity is related to the production and research of various chemical and biotechnological raw materials. The company is headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, but has a total of 91 bases worldwide, 43 of which are manufacturing.

According to data for 2012, the company has a total of 11,400 employees, and their revenues for 2010 amount to 2680 billion Swiss francs. We will not bore you with more information, probably completely unnecessary for most of you. Just keep in mind that Lonza is an extremely serious and large company with a very serious reputation. This brings us to the next question

What is Carnipure®?

When you buy a food supplement, the ingredients in it come from a particular raw material manufacturer. Some of these raw materials are even patented because they are produced by special technology. This is also the case with products containing l-carnitine, some of which use patented l-carnitine – Carnipure®. Carnipure® is manufactured by Lonza and at this stage is considered the purest and highest quality raw material on the market. Carnipure® is available in three variants:
  • Carnipure® crystalline – is pure l-carnitine

  • Carnipure® tartrate – is l-carnitine in the form of l-tartrate.

  • Carnipure® ALC – patented acetyl-l-carnitine

In reality, Carnipure® tartrate and Carnipure® ALC are made using Carnipure® crystalline. Carnipure® tartrate is prepared by adding tartaric acid (L-tartaric acid) to Carnipure® crystalline. The ratio is 2: 1, with l-carnitine representing 68% and tartaric acid 32% of the total composition. Carnipure® tartrate is the raw material with the highest concentration of pure l-carnitine on the market. It is approved for use by newborns (l-carnitine is often given to newborns because their biosynthesis is often too weak) and for use in foods and products with specific uses (PARNUTS). It has a positive EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) safety assessment, GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status in the United States and is approved by the MHLW (Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare) in Japan. Carnipure® crystalline and Carnipure® tartrate are:

  • ISO 9001 and FSSC 22,000 certified
  • Kosher and Halal certified
  • Completely traceable

What does all this mean in practice?

As with all other supplements, l-carnitine is available from dozens of different manufacturers, under dozens of different logos. We are often asked which l-carnitine is the best and what is the difference between the different products. The source of the raw material and its quality is one of the differences. Does this mean that products that do not use Carnipure® are of poor quality or dangerous? No way. L-Carnitine-L-Tartrate is one of the most widely used forms of carnitine and virtually any raw material acts just like Carnipure®.

However, almost none of the manufacturers of food supplements specify where its raw materials come from and thus the consumer does not have information about the amount of pure l-carnitine in the product, whether it is well purified, etc. When you buy a product that uses Carnipure®, you will know that you are using a really high quality product. If you buy a product for which it is not specified what the raw material is, you will rely only on the company’s reputation for using raw material with proven quality and purity. Of course, you will pay more for the patented raw material than for the one without a patent, and depending on the price policy of the manufacturer of the product itself, the price is sometimes double.

Which products use Carnipure®?

If you still decide to choose a product containing the patented raw material, among our products those of NOW Foods, Pure Nutrition and the liquid version of SAN will not disappoint you.
